Volunteering
Volunteer Cowichan promotes, mobilizes, and celebrates volunteers as the heart of our thriving community. Volunteers offer their time and skill to support people, communities, and causes without any financial benefits. Volunteers do not get paid, but there is always a return on your investment. Some of the many benefits are:
- Strengthen your community by giving time to a meaningful cause
- Share your skills and unique gifts with others
- Meet new people, make new friends and expand your network
- Improve your mental and physical health
- Gain experience or learn new skills
- Boost your resume
Volunteer Cowichan believes that everyone has the right to volunteer. Volunteers can be any age and from any background, regardless of whether you are studying, working, or retired.
Youth Volunteering
Youth Can Cowichan is a program that aims to build skills and social connections in the Cowichan Valley for young adults between the ages of 15-29.
Participants help lead the planning and execution of volunteer events and projects, get connected with community organizations to volunteer, and have the opportunity to attend training opportunities to develop their skills.
Volunteer with Us
In addition to serving as a hub of volunteerism, Volunteer Cowichan also runs several community programs and services that utilize more than 100 volunteers in their delivery to benefit seniors, youth, and families. These programs include:
- Better at Home helps seniors with simple non-medical, day-to-day tasks so they can continue to live independently in their homes.
- Social Prescribing elevates our seniors’ quality of life through enhanced social connections and physical activity.
- Youth Programming provides opportunities for youth to get involved in volunteer events and projects and gain valuable work experience.
- Our Board of Directors offers the opportunity to bring your ideas to life and create a strong foundation for our many services.
We are also always looking for people to help with answering phones, daily administration, special events, and the distribution of the Wellness News publication.
Volunteer Elsewhere
The Cowichan Valley is host to hundreds of not-for-profits and charitable organizations, as well as community events and causes that benefit from the efforts of volunteers. Volunteer Cowichan works collaboratively with these groups to spread the word. We can help connect people who want to give their time, talents, and skills with the group that needs them, so it’s a win-win.
From opportunities related to Animal Welfare, Arts & Heritage, 2SLGBTQ+, Environmental, Sports & Recreation, there are many ways to give back!
