Volunteer Cowichan is currently looking for summer youth volunteers between the ages of 12 and 18 (completion of grade 7-12) to be partnered up with our Cowichan Region Better at home program (CRBAH). CRBAH is a program that assists seniors in remaining independent in their homes. Volunteer Cowichan is recruiting youth volunteers to support CRBAH seniors with some of the tasks that they can no longer perform by themselves. We are looking to get the youth volunteers out this summer and working on projects the clients have requested while developing valuable relationships with the seniors. During the time spent through the program the youth will be trained and taught basic life skills and will be asked to display those skills through light yard work (Pruning bushes, weeding, gravel work, blackberry removal, learning how to properly operate a lawn mower, how to handle a hammer and nails, and building patios/planters) and light house work (Painting, organizing, downsizing, cleaning or emptying houses, rooms or garages). Approximately 6-10 students will be providing volunteer services once or twice weekly from July 17th to August 25th: There is flexibility with the scheduling. Each volunteer can be driven to the projects and will be performing requested tasks under qualified supervision. Not only does joining the program offer the ability to learn basic life skills, develop valuable relationships, and give back to the community; it is a great opportunity to build and strengthen your resume, increase communication skills, expand your educational experiences, and still enjoy a fun and eventful summer.
